Jeju Island (제주도)




     Located in the southwest of South Korea, Jejudo Island  (제주도) is a volcanic island in oval shape.  The weather is warmer even during the winter months.

     On June 27, 2007, UNESCO’S World Heritage Committee listed Jeju Volcanic Island and Lava Tubes as a World Natural Heritage in view of the site’s parasitic volcano and lava tubes, as well as for its outstanding geological features and special properties as a habitat for a variety of rare and endangered species.  Jeju Volcanic Island and Lava Tubes largely comprises of three sites: Mount Hallasan Natural Reserve, Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak, and the Geomunoreum Lava Tube System.  The lava tube system includes Geomunoreum, a parasitic cone, and the five lava caves of Bengdwigul, Manjanggul, Gimnyeonggul, Yongcheondonggul, and Dangcheomuldonggul.

Namsangol Hanok Village


     Namsangol Hanok Village is a traditional Korean village located in Pildong.  This mini folk village consist a number of restored traditional Korean houses depicting various social classes from the Joseon Dynasty.  Inside the house, antique furniture reflects the daily life of their ancestors.  A garden with pavilion, a pond and a time capsule makes it perfect to take a walk.

     There are souvenir shops where you can buy small dishes and other items.  You can have traditional tea and try their traditional games like neolttwigi (see-saw jumping), tuho (arrow throwing) and yunnori (throwing wooden yut sticks).  Why not go to see the traditional marriage ceremony at Bak Yeong Hyo’s Residence.  But during winter (November to February), only few wedding ceremonies are being held.

Subway: station Chungmuro line 3 and 4, and a five-minute walk from Exit 3
Bus: Take Bus 104, 105, 263, 604, or 7011.  Get off in front of at 'Twegye 3 (sam)-ga Hanongmaeul. Walk to the exit4 of Chungmuro Station, then along Hanongmaeul-gil st. for 5 minutes.
